Making money online from affiliate marketing

Never has there been a better time to be making money from the internet. You don’t need to be an IT expert, thousands of people across the Uk are making money everyday from the internet, and one of the best things about it is there is virtually no outlay and once you have set your system up it will make money for you.

The 2 main ways of making money from the internet is by Affiliate Marketing or Pay Per Click Advertising, both very different.

Affiliate Marketing - One of the first websites to offer this was Amazon a few years ago, now virtually every online shop that sells products or a service uses affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is simple, you put special unique tracking links on your website, blog, free webspace to the shop you are promoting, if someone clicks the link visits the shop and buys something from it you get a comission from the sale.

Thetracking links come from Affiliate Marketing companies, of which I have listed the main Uk ones below;

http://www.cj.com
http://www.buy.at
http://www.affiliatewindow.co.uk
http://www.affiliatefuture.co.uk
http://www.onlinemediagroup.co.uk (mainly deal with financial products and services)

Registering is easy, you can be registered and ready to start making money in a matter of days.

Pay Per Click - This is different from affiliate marketing, instead of making money per sale you make money per click (for the vistor clicking the link and visiting the advertisers website)

There are many Pay Per Click advertising companies but many will only deal with large websites generating a lot of traffic, for smaller websites the best companies to apply for free to are;

Getting Started - I have been affiliate marketing for about 2 years now, I started out with no relevant experience of webdesign I didn’t even know what a blog was! I taught myself everything I needed to know for free. Don’t expect to be making money overnight, it isn’t a get rich quick scheme, but you can build up a nice second income if you put the work in.

The first thing to do is choose an interest you are passionate about and try and make it a neich subject. The more neich the better, i.e you maybe interested in travelling but that is far to broad a subject there are plenty of websites on travel that do a great job already, instead think of one tiny aspect of travel, maybe a particular city, or place you have been too?

What I did first was start blogging, you can register at http://www.blogger.com for free and have a page up and running in minutes, start writing about your neich subject get a feel for it! One of the good things about Blogger is that it is owned by Google you can apply to have adsense adverts on your blog, you can do this on the control panel when you are logger into your blog.

There are many websites that offer free webspace that you can use before you buy a website some examples are listed below;

http://geocities.yahoo.com
http://360.yahoo.com
http://pages.google.com

At this point I would just use the free websites to get a feel for internet marketing and see if it is for you? If it isn’t then you haven’t wasted any money finding this out.

Once you have written some decent stuff, apply to the affiliate marketing companies I mentioned above, you will be more likely to be accepted by them if they see that you have some ideas in place.

Once you have been accepted with the affiliate marketing companies you are free to sign up to the different programmes they have on offer. Try to pick programmes that are relevant to your subject, so if you are talking about travel sign up for car hire programmes (Hertz, Avis, Europcar) , holiday programmes (Opodo, Thomsons, Expedia), airport car parking, travel insurance, luggage, holiday clothes. The more relevant the links are to the subect you are talking about the more likely visitors will click the links and potentially making commision from a sale.

Most affiliate companies pay a month of two in arrers and once you have made a certain level of commision anything from £16 - £30 you will be paid! It really is that simple, affiliate marketing can offer a great second income, once you have written articles they will continue to keep generating money for you, essentially you are creating an automated business that you can easily run from any computer that is hooked up to the internet.
