Making your own beauty products at home for cheap
Making your own beauty products can be fun and a lot cheaper than buying them as well. They make great presents that can be tailored to suit the person you are making them for, and with a little bit of clever wrapping and boxing they can look really good as well. Buying the initial ingredients can cost a few £’s, but once you have these, you will find that you can make a LOT of different things with them, and overall the cost per item is much lower than shop bought similar items, and of course because you have made them yourself, you will know exactly what is in them making them friendlier to use as there are far fewer chemicals involved.
(Because these are all made from natural ingredients with no preservatives, you may find that they will not stay fresh for as long as a store bought product would).
Soft Skin Lotion
1 cup dried camomile
4 tablespoons honey
1 cup milk
8 teaspoons wheat germ
Steep the camomile in the milk for a few hours. Strain the mixture, keeping the liquid.
Add honey and wheat germ to liquid mixture. Blend well in a liquidiser and place in a bottle. Refrigerate any unused portions. (Keeps for approx one week).

Instructions to make your own microwave heating pad for your neck and shoulders
Take one long men’s tube sock, or stitch a bag approx 12cm x 40cm. Fill with field corn or wheat, sew up the open end.
Heat in microwave one minute at a time until you reach the temperature you want. Place around your neck. (you can also mix a few drops of lavender or peppermint essential oil with the corn before you fill the sock for a scented version).
Orange Hand Lotion
1 oz of warmed olive oil
1 oz of freshly squeezed orange juice
1/2 oz of melted cocoa butter
2 drops of orange flower oil
Put all of these ingredients into a blender and combine until light and fluffy. When all ingredients are thoroughly blended together, package them in an airtight container or jar ready for use.
Bath Beads
¼ cup powdered milk
2 tbs. powdered sugar
2 tbs. borax powder
¼ cup rose water or orange water
2 tsp. vitamin E
10 drops essential oil
Combine the dried milk, sugar, and borax in a bowl, stirring until well mixed. Add the water, vitamin E, and essential oil. Stir until you have a thick dough. Depending on the humidity in the air, you may need to cut the water amount back. Try adding a little at a time until you get a good thick dough. Roll the dough into a ball one teaspoon at a time with your hands. Repeat until all of the dough has been used. Place the balls on a sheet of tin foil or waxed paper and let dry for twenty four hours.
(Because these are all made from natural ingredients with no preservatives, you may find that they will not stay fresh for as long as a store bought product would).
Herbal Pillows
These aromatic bags are sometimes called Herbal Eye pillows (small versions), Dream pillows or Sinus pillows. Whatever you call them they are wonderful! There are two different recipes here for these, so you can choose which to make, or make one of each and then use them according to your mood/desire.
Sinus Headache Pillow
2 parts flax seeds
1 part crushed spearmint leaf
1 part crushed peppermint leaf
1 part lavender buds
1 part eucalyptus leaf
1 part rosemary leaf
Dream Pillow
1 part rose petals
1 part German camomile
1 part sweet hops
1 part lavender buds
1 part crushed catnip
½ part peppermint
Cut two 5 x 12 inch pieces of material and stitch together on three sides. Choose which mix you would like to use, and mix the ingredients together in a bowl.
Fill the bag with your mixture. Sew the top of the bag shut. (obviously it will depend on the size of measure you use, as to how many bags you will be able to make with your ingredients).
